Inspiration Everywhere (Pt.4)

Nothing like a new little person for some great subject matter.  ^_^

Inspiration Everywhere (Pt. 3)

Have you ever just stared at a wall and found faces or other cool/odd shapes just within the wall's texture?  This "Robot Witch" has been a reoccurring character in a spot on my ceiling for a while now.

How many cartoon faces can you find in the fabric pattern of a simple pillowcase? How many more can you find when flipping that same pillowcase upside down?

Remember when you were little and couldn't sleep at night because you thought you were seeing monsters in the shadows in your room?  Well.  Who else has realized that that can actually be used in your adult life for crazy character design ideas?  And I mean crazy !

Dads For Biggest Fans

Image
This little cartoon is a tribute to my father I did for his birthday recently, depicting an event from my childhood.  (And with no exaggeration, I might add.) ;)  Back then, I managed to snag a lead roll in my school play.  During the curtain call, I cringed in embarrassment in seeing my dad standing tall among the audience, waving a big homemade paper banner with my name on it, shouting out to me with his reputably carrying voice.  Later, in the green room, another girl from the play came up to me, asking if it was my dad waving the banner.  After mumbling in confirmation, (Since my name being on the banner made it too obvious to try denying it) I was sure she was going to laugh and make fun of me for being related to the man who had made a complete spectacle of himself.  However, to my surprise, she simply said, "I wish my dad did that," and walked away.... Talk about a slap in the face to make my pre-teen self realize how awesome my dad reall...

Regarding my Absence

Hey there, viewers! Sorry for the long gap.  During this past year, I've had a baby, which comes with all sorts of health and scheduling conflicts right along with some newest greatest moments in my personal life that could not be passed up, which, as you can imagine, interfered with my ability to do much of any art at all.  But now I've finally gotten things to a more manageable point enough for me to start picking up my sketchbook again. I'll be posting some new stuff next week.  Though, as it's been a while since I've done anything new, don't be surprised that it might start off being a bit different than what I've done in the past.  Just a warning. Catch you later. ;)

Amy's Martial Arts Ad

Image
I designed this character for a client of a martial arts studio a long time ago, (I'm talking high school before I had taken any anatomy classes.  Hint.  Hint.) and thought I'd pick it up again to try some animation with it. This is a start of what I had in mind as far as the movement and timing, so the model is not at all detailed, or perhaps even proportionally correct in some places in this stage.  As part as my animation process, it's just how I roll. ;)

I'm still playing around with the color on this one, but this is one of the villains my niece had come up with.  Transformative ice powers to go up against her fire.  Typical, right?

From Kid's Imaginations (Pt. 3)

This is one of my niece's friends depicted in superhero mode. I know she looks perfectly normal here, but my niece always imagined that if she goes fast enough on her roller-blades, she can teleport long distances, or perhaps even travel through time.  Still working that one out with her, but it's still kind of fun to think about.

Nephew's Preferred Version First Pass Version Sooooo...my niece's younger brother found out that I had made a superhero version of her and, as can be expected, he wanted in on the action.  So he asked me to do one of him with lightning powers. This one took a bit more thought because my nephew, unlike his artist of a big sister who knew exactly what she wanted, he wasn't quite sure what his character would look like until I drew up some concepts for him to kind of pick-and-choose from.  This is what we came up with. P.S. Which version do you like best?

From Kid's Imaginations (Pt. 1)

Lately, my nine-year-old niece has been imagining herself and a group of her friends from school with superpowers and asked me to illustrate them for her. As a start to this new series of posts, this is a depiction of her little red-headed self with fire powers. Typical, right?  ^_^

For Candlelight Media/Silver Peak Productions This is a sample of what I did for my latest client.  I did everything visual and also provided some of the characters voices.  (Can you guess which ones? ;) )
